About the creation of WonderLang: An Innovative Fusion of RPGs and Language Learning

I’m Jonathan, the creator of WonderLang, and today, I want to take you behind the curtain of this exciting project. WonderLang isn’t just a game—it’s a dream that has been years in the making. Let me share with you how it all began and how we’re turning it into reality.

🌱 The Inspiration – A Quest for a Better Way to Learn

My love for RPGs started in childhood, with classics like Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, Dragon Quest, Okami, and Zelda. These weren’t just games to me; they were immersive worlds where I unknowingly improved my English, picking up new words and phrases simply by playing. Back then many games weren't translated to French so I had no choice but to pick up English if I wanted to make progress in my favourite games.

Fast forward to 2016, while living in Korea and struggling to learn the language, I juggled flashcards, apps like Duolingo, and yet another Final Fantasy adventure. That’s when it hit me—what if language learning felt more like playing an RPG? What if instead of repetitive drills, learners could explore, interact, and absorb language naturally through an engaging story?

That idea became WonderLang, a game where players learn a new language not by memorization, but by living it in a magical world.
